Mary Lou Mitchell, age 87, a life-long resident of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 27, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Elwood on Feb. 25, 1936, to the late Paul and Margaret (Beeman) Casto.

Mary Lou married Lois B. Mitchell on Oct. 22, 1955, and he preceded her in death on June 12, 1999.

She was a proud homemaker the majority of her life and took great pride in caring for her family.

Through the years, Mary Lou worked at numerous factories in town including, Essex Wire and Fettig’s Canning Factory. She was an avid animal lover, enjoyed doing word searches and loved collecting bears of all types.

Mary Lou will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

Mary Lou is survived by her three children, Ron (wife Becky) Mitchell, Nancy Mitchell and Tracey Cast; five grandchildren; several greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Jimmie Casto and William ‘Butch’ Casto.

Private visitation and a graveside took place on Saturturday, April 1, 2023, at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery in Elwood with family friend Laura Groover officiating.

Dunnichay Funeral Home has been entrusted with Mary Lou’s care and burial arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Heart of Hoosier Land Humane Society through the funeral home.
