MICHELE MARIE TATMAN

1963-2023

Alexandria, IN – On April 21, 2023, Alexandria lost a special member of its community with the passing of Michele Marie Tatman, affectionately known as “Shelly” at the age of 59.

Shelly was born on November 25, 1963, in Anderson, Indiana, to Larry and Rose Marie Tatman.

Shelly graduated from Alexandria-Monroe High School-Class of 1982, and went on to study at Ball State, graduating with a degree in accounting in 1986.

Outside of work, Shelly found joy in a variety of hobbies. She was a music enthusiast and served as the business manager for the Carl Storie Band. She was an avid reader and spirited storyteller that always entertained at family gatherings, as well as a loyal fan of the popular soap opera General Hospital. Her interest in music combined with her love of knowledge made her unbeatable in games of Song Pop and Buffalo Wild Wings trivia. Shelly was a passionate woman who loved fiercely. She cherished her relationship with her loving and loyal mother as well as her canine companion, Dickens. She proudly owned the title of “Auntie” and feverishly poured herself into her nieces and nephews as a tutor, nurturer, and motivator. Armed with a tenacious spirit, Shelly was always willing to share and defend her opinions. She was a true character with a unique and endearing personality that will be greatly missed by those who loved her.

Surviving family members include her mother, Rose Marie Tatman of Alexandria, sister, Cindy Bathauer (Doug) of Newburgh, brother, Kurt Tatman (Sherri) of Alexandria, niece Shelby Bathauer of Berwyn, IL, nephew Kaleb Tatman of Alexandria, niece Paisley Brizendine (Mason) of Alexandria, niece Lauren Coppens (Tyler) of Evansville, Indiana, niece Macy Tatman of Alexandria, and nephew Jackson Tatman of Alexandria.

Shelly was preceded in death by her father, Larry Tatman, in 1999 and her beloved bestie Mozart in 2015.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2 pm on Wednesday, April 26, 2023, in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 820 West Madison Street, Alexandria with Father Paul Cochran officiating. Interment will follow in Anderson Memorial Park. Friends may call in the narthex of St. Mary’s Catholic Church after 12 Noon prior to the service. Shelly will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her vibrant spirit and memories will live on in the hearts of her loved ones. Owens Funeral Home in Alexandria has been entrusted with Shelly’s care.
