LAYMOND HOBBS

Laymond L. Hobbs, age 90 of Elwood, passed away Saturday, July 22, 2023, surrounded by his family at home after a long, full life.  He was born September 18, 1932, in Elwood, the son of Paul and Lucille (Carter) Hobbs.  Laymond married the love of his life, Thelma R. Stickler on March 1, 1952, and they shared over 66 years of marriage together before her passing in 2018.  He worked in production at Delco Remy in Anderson for 31 years before retiring in 1981.

Laymond was a member of the U.A.W. #662 in Anderson and formerly served on a meaningful mission trip to the Appalachian Mountains with the Catholic Church.  He took enormous pride in his home and property and truly enjoyed working in his yard.  Laymond and Thelma were known for decorating their yard with all types of accent items throughout the year.  He also enjoyed listening to country music, fishing and camping at Hill Lake, and spending time at home.  Laymond will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather who leaves a long legacy of good memories for his family.

Laymond’s family includes 3 children, Vicki (husband Kevin) Clark of Elwood, Michael Hobbs of Elwood, Mark (wife Teresa) Hobbs of Elwood; 5 grandchildren, Niki, Crystal, Marcus, Mike and Tony; 9 great-grandchildren, Kehara, Janice, Shane, Jasmin, Gage, Maley, Kaleb, Chelsea and Kailon; 2 great-great grandchildren, Olaya and Zara; brother-in-law, Bob Stickler of Elwood; special friends and neighbors, Mary Fred and Mike Miller; and several nieces and nephews.  Laymond was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Thelma Hobbs; 5 sibling’s, Harold Hobbs, Dwight Hobbs, Wavelyn Smith, and David Hobbs; and grandson, Shane Tyner.

A funeral service celebrating Laymond’s life will be conducted at 2:30 pm on Monday, July 31, 2023, at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Chaplain Joel Flowers of Paradigm Hospice officiating.  A burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery in Elwood.  A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 pm to 2:30 pm on Monday prior to the funeral at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.  Online condolences and memories may be shared at www.copherfelermay.com.
