Linda L. (Morris) McCool, age 79 and a lifelong resident of Elwood, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 24, 2023, at Elwood Health & Living Center after a long battle with cancer and dementia. She was born February 22, 1944, in Elwood, the daughter of John Thomas and Louise Annabell (McPhearson) Morris. Linda attended Frankton schools. She married Paul Howard Dwayne McCool on March 19, 1960, and they shared over 63 years of marriage together. Linda retired in 1992 from Parkview Convalescent Center where she worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for 11 years. She also formerly worked at Essex Wire Co., Red Gold, and Goforth Laundry.
Linda was a former member of the Frankton Church of the Firstborn where she attended regularly for many years. She absolutely loved family gatherings, holidays, and spending time with her grandchildren. Linda especially enjoyed the Christmas holiday and spoiling all her family members with an abundance of gifts. She was known for collecting all kinds of things including dolls, Native American items, and figurines. For many years, Linda enjoyed fishing and spending time at Yellow Creek and Hill Lake with family members. She always looked forward to family vacations and especially loved spending time at Myrtle Beach. Her family is comforted knowing that Linda is now in perfect health and sound mind in Heaven. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Elwood Health & Living for the wonderful and compassionate care they provided for Linda in her final days. The comfort they provided will never be forgotten.
Linda’s family includes her husband, Paul McCool of Elwood; 4 children, Rodney D. McCool of Elwood, Tonya K. Mitchell of Summitville, Keith A. “Skip” McCool of Florida, and Sonya L. (Corey) May of Elwood; 2 brothers, Terry L. Morris (Ruby Claybaugh) of Elwood and Robert L. (Ethel) Morris of Elwood; 6 grandchildren, Tiffany Smith, Dustin (Rebekah) Moore, Robert (Linda) Moore, Ty McCool, Kristen McCool, and Lauren May; 7 great-grandchildren, Jade Smith, Hailey Smith, Hayden Smith, Noel Moore, Aleah Moore, Noah Moore, and Carson McNamara; 3 great-great-grandchildren, Josiah England, Julie Smith, and Sabastian Stansberry; brother-in-law, Steve Baird; and several nieces and nephews. Linda was preceded in death by her parents; son, Ronald T. “Ronnie” McCool; and sister, Carol Ann Frye-Baird.
A funeral service celebrating Linda’s life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with family friend, Rev. Jerry Jones officiating. A burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 pm on Friday, July 28, 2023, at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
