
Elwood students earn distinctions at ISSMA State Competition

Darryl Gene Conway Jr., 35, of Alexandria, is facing felony charges of domestic battery against a family member less than 14 years old and neglect of a dependent resulting in bodily injury following incidents resulting in injuries to his children while in his care.Alexandria police officer Callahan Baxter, began investigating the case in January after being informed by the Department of Child Services (DCS) of a report of battery on a three-year-old child.The DCS report indicated there were signs of physical abuse happening in the home Conway against the children.

ALEXANDRIA — On a snowy Friday night, Frankton was trying to claim sole possession of the conference title and Alexandria was trying to end a 10-year drought of not having the Central Indiana Conference’s traveling trophy, ‘The Horseshoe.’The Tigers jumped to a 22-7 lead after one quarter and the Eagles never caught up in a 67-57 decision.It was senior night for the home team and its only two seniors Carson Cuneo and Gabe McGuire combined to score all but two of those first quarter points and take all but two of the shots.Cuneo didn’t miss a field goal, scoring 12 points.
FISHERS — Senior Owen Huff ended his Elwood High School swimming career by earning three ribbons at the Fishers Boys Swim Sectional on Saturday.Huff swam in the 100-yard backstroke consolation finals and also was a member of Elwood’s 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams that also swam in the consolation finals.The top eight swimmers in last Thursday’s preliminary round advanced to the championship finals, while the next eight swimmers earned a spot in the consolation finals.
FRANKTON — Daleville’s defense dictated the strategy here last Tuesday night and Frankton went right at the Broncos for a 63-53 victory.“They were obviously going to play us tight,” said Frankton coach Brent Brobston.
ELWOOD — A week after the Elwood eighth-grade Panthers defeated the Frankton Eagles in their regular season contest, Frankton turned the tables on Elwood in the semifinals of the Central Indiana Conference tournament winning 42-34 on Jan.
FRANKTON — Joey Wright hit the game-winning basket in the final second to send Frankton to a hard-fought 47-45 victory over Mississinewa here Friday night.The victory assured the Eagles at least a share of the Central Indiana Conference title with a 6-0 record and one league game left to play.
PINETO — Elwood’s varsity boys basketball team was unable to overcome a poor start here last Tuesday night and fell to Southern Wells 47-40.The Raiders led 10-4 at the end of the first quarter and extended their lead to 25-16 at halftime.
NEW CASTLE — Elwood’s Kayden Simpson and Frankton’s Garek Ellis came within one win of competing in this weekend’s Indiana High School Wrestling State Finals at the Ford Center in Evansville.Simpson and Ellis won their first-round matches at Saturday’s New Castle Semistate to advance to the ‘ticket’ round.
