Elwood rolls to 52-18 victory over Hamilton

HAMILTON — Elwood’s varsity boys basketball team took a trip up to northern Indiana for an early afternoon game on Saturday, and the Panthers came home 52-18 winners over Hamilton.This was Elwood’s second straight win and seventh of the season.

Elwood’s relay teams place at HSE Girls Swim Sectional

FISHERS — All three Elwood relay teams swam in the consolation finals at the Hamilton Southeastern Sectional on Saturday.Individuals and relay teams with the top eight times in last Thursday’s preliminaries advanced to the championship finals, while those with the next eight fastest times swam in the consolation finals.The Panthers’ 200-yard medley and 400-yard freestyle relay teams earned ninth-place finishes, while the 200 free relay placed 10th.Junior Alora Coble, junior Emma Vanover, freshman Becky Patton and senior Abby Riberger swam the medley relay in a time of 2:52.67 on Saturday.Senior Savannah Garcia, Patton, freshman Zoey Russell and senior Olivia Simmons comprised the four legs of the 400 free relay team which finished in a time of 5:07.56.Simmons, Coble, Russell and Garcia swam the 200 free relay in 2:13.55.Fishers won the sectional with a score of 531 and was followed by HSE 490, Yorktown 245, Hamilton Heights 240, Oak Hill 175, Pendleton Heights 146, Anderson 102, Marion 86, Lapel 68 and Elwood 68.

Frankton’s Jonah Ellis wins regional

PENDLETON — Frankton’s Jonah Ellis won the 190-pound weight class at Saturday’s Pendleton Heights Regional.Jonah Ellis leads a trio of Frankton wrestlers into this Saturday’s New Castle Semistate as Garek Ellis and Ty Everson placed third at 215 and 285 pounds, respectively.Elwood’s Kayden Simpson also earned a trip to New Castle with his second-place finish at 120 pounds.The top four finishers in each weight class advance to the semistate.

No. 1 Huskies end Eagles’ season

YORKTOWN — The Frankton Lady Eagles faced an uphill battle Friday night in the Class 3A Yorktown Sectional semifinals against No.1-ranked Hamilton Heights.With 5:42 left in the second quarter, senior Emma Sperry was sandwiched between two Huskies going for a loose ball.

Elwood falls to Eastbrook

ELWOOD — Thanks to injuries and illness, Elwood had only seven players in uniform when they took on defending champion Eastbrook in last Tuesday night’s Class 2A Sectional 39 opening game here at John Ward Gymnasium.Topping the injury list were freshman point guard Breelyn Norris and junior forward Kendra Sallee who were Elwood’s leading scorer and rebounder, respectively.“We have three players out with a shoulder injury,” second-year coach Courtney Lickliter said.

Frankton cruises past Centerville

YORKTOWN — Frankton’s one-two punch enabled the Eagles to knock out Centerville and win the opening round of the Class 3A Yorktown Sectional here on Wednesday night.Seniors Amaya Collins and Emma Sperry provided the ammunition in a 59-19 triumph against an over-matched Bulldogs squad.

FRANKTON — Frankton’s Amaya Collins scored 30 points and eclipsed the 1,000-point mark for her career to highlight the Eagles’ sweep of a girls/boys Central Indiana Conference doubleheader here Friday night.The Lady Eagles handily won the first game 61-19 and then the boys got off to a strong start to hand the Panthers a 60-40 defeat.With Frankton a heavy favorite in the girls game, getting Collins to 1,000 was an early priority on Senior Night, her final regular season contest on this court.
