ANN “RITA” LEER

Ann “Rita” Leer, age 92, a lifelong resident of Elwood, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at Elwood Health and Living following an extended illness. Rita was born in Elwood on April 2, 1931, to the late Samuel and Julia (Monahan) Cole.

DAVID LEE HEFLIN

1947-2023 David Lee Heflin, age 76 of Elwood, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at his home following a brief illness. He was born January 8, 1947 in Elwood, the son of Don Lee and Joyce Ann (Elliott) Heflin.

1942-2023 Rodney Lee Birkinbine, age 80 of Anderson, passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at Community Hospital in Anderson following a brief illness. He was born June 15, 1942 in Elwood, the son of Lloyd and Doris (Cloud) Birkinbine.

Elwood Police Department 2023 Awards Banquet

The Elwood Police Department hosted its 2023 Awards Banquet last Tuesday evening at the Elwood Elks Lodge. The banquet included an Italian buffet dinner followed by the presentation of awards. The ceremony was attended by members of the Elwood Police Department and their families, Mayor Todd Jones, the members of the Board of Works, and Sheriff John Beeman. William Maluvac of the Elwood Police Department and Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Lemon were awarded the Silver Star Award for their response to the tragic killing of Officer Noah Shahnavaz.

ELWOOD CALL-LEADER The offices for the Elwood Call-Leader, Tipton County Tribune, and the Alexandria Times-Tribune have moved to 108 South Anderson Street in Elwood, inside the Elwood Chamber of Commerce building. Hours of operation will remain the same, from Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.
