1965-2023 Kerry Jay Hoover, age 58, of Elwood, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023, at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. Kerry was born in Tipton, IN on April 12, 1965, to the late Samuel and Mary (Durr) Hoover.

Ruth Schuck Justus of Elwood, IN passed away of natural causes on April 16, 2023 at the age of 104 at Ascension St. Vincent Mercy Hospital in the company of her beloved niece Debbie Barker.

APRIL 16 - APRIL 22 1973 • The Elwood Parks and Recreation Board met to discuss a multi-recreational park proposal. Jim Cole, president of the board, said the board would have a map of the proposed multi-recreational facility at the May meeting.

Alexandria student recounts experience inside the school amid threat

A student inside the school at the time describes her experience as “scary.” She said they were eight to ten minutes into the third period of the day when athletic director Mickey Hosier came on the intercom and told the teachers and students the school was under a hard lock down. She said the teachers were instructed to lock and barricade the classroom doors. She said she and other students helped the teacher move tables and chairs in front of the classroom door.

Elwood tennis finishes 3rd in county tourney

Elwood’s high school girls tennis team placed third in last week’s Madison County tourney, finishing its three matches with a 2-1 record. The Panthers defeated Madison-Grant 4-1 in last Wednesday’s opening round.

Lady Panthers hammer Liberty Christian in 5 innings

ELWOOD — Elwood’s varsity softball team had nearly three times as many strikeouts (15) as hits (6) in last Saturday’s 1-0 season-opening loss to Yorktown. The Panther offense came to life in Tuesday’s first round of the Madison County Tournament as Elwood blasted Liberty Christian 16-2 in 5 innings here.
