Lathan Williams, who hails from Hammond, LA, is likely to have his picture on a baseball card pretty soon, says the Association of Mature American Citizens [AMAC]. In fact, seven-year-old Lathan the Kid Umpire, as he’s known around town and his growing social media fan club, may soon be declared the world’s youngest baseball umpire by the judges at the Guinness World Record.

Lt. Gov. Crouch, IHCDA launch crowdfunding campaign for Frankton Elementary

Frankton residents and students will soon have an inclusive place to play if this crowdfunding campaign reaches its goal of raising $25,000 by April 25, 2023. If successful, the project led by Frankton Students in Action will receive a matching grant as part of the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority’s (IHCDA) My Community, My Vision (MCMV) program.

Multiple crews respond to fire

On March 12 at 07:24 a.m., the Tipton County 911 Center received a 911 call from a resident that was living at 0728 E SR 28 stating that his house was on fire. Crews arriving found heavy fire and smoke coming from the residence.

A funeral services for Sue Ann Henderson, age 80, of Columbus, will be at 1 p.m. today, March 14, 2023, at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with the Rev. Howard Boles of Columbus United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today prior to the funeral at the funeral home.

ECSC BOARD OF TRUSTEES The Elwood Community School Corporation Board of Trustees will meet in an executive session Thursday, March 23 at 6:30 p.m. at the Elwood Jr/Sr High School to discuss a job performance evaluation of individual employees.

ARP funds used to install new drinking fountain at YMCA

Last week, a new water bottle filling fountain was installed at the Elwood YMCA. The fountain was purchased using funds allocated from the American Rescue Plan. The funds can be used to invest in infrastructure projects and organizations that serve local communities. Kappa Delta Phi makes donation to Elwood Food Pantry

Recently, the Elwood Food Pantry received a generous monetary donation from Kappa Delta Phi sorority. The check was presented to Food Pantry Director Nancy Sumner from the winners of recent contests sponsored by the sorority.

Council approves tax abatements for Warner Bodies, Steel Mart

The Elwood City Council approved tax abatements for two local businesses that are planning to add a total of 26 new jobs. The council voted to adopt 10-year-tax abatements to Manasek, the company that operates Steel Mart and Warner Bodies.
