Despite rain, Citywide Easter gathering draws large crowd

Despite rain and gloomy weather, the annual Citywide Easter Egg Hunt drew several hundred to the shelter house at Callaway Park last Saturday. Though the traditional egg hunt was canceled, attendees were still entered into a drawing for several prizes, including 46 Easter baskets, 23 bicycles, two electric scooters, and five smart televisions. Additionally, more 373 Easter bags were gifted to the kids in attendance.

With so much need in the world, it is sometimes hard to know how to help. As I learned many years ago, an old adage applies here. “How do you eat an elephant ear sandwich? One bite at a time.” Here in Madison County, there is one great group of dedicated people who do that with everything they see as important to improve our community and our world.

2025 EJSHS Prom Court

The 2025 Elwood Jr./Sr. High School Prom is set for Saturday, May 3 at the Elwood Elks Lodge. The theme for this year’s dance is “The Great Gatsby.” Line-up will begin 7 p.m., with doors opening at 8 p.m. The King and Queen will be crowned at 10:30 p.m.

Boards withdraws insanity defense

Carl Roy Webb Boards II, the man charged with the murder of Elwood Officer Noah Shahnavaz, has withdrawn his planned insanity defense. Boards testified last Tuesday in Madison Circuit Court Division 3 that he made the decision to withdraw the defense strategy, acknowledging it will be difficult to raise a similar defense strategy later on.

Daleville rallies to defeat Elwood 8-2

Elwood took a 1-0 lead in the first inning of Saturday’s varsity baseball game. Daleville, however, scored the next eight runs and left with an 8-2 victory over the Panthers.
