Indiana’s ban on trial courtroom broadcasts being lifted

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana Supreme Court is lifting the longtime statewide ban on cameras for trials and other hearings in county courtrooms. An order issued Wednesday will give local judges the option on whether to allow news media to broadcast, record or take photographs of courtroom proceedings.

Painting donated to Elwood Municipal Building

Recently, Lenny Sharp, above at right, donated a framed Marvin Crim painting to the City of Elwood. Sharp, an Elwood resident of more than two decades is the owner of Redbeard Picture Framing. The picture was painted by Marvin Crim, a graduate of Wendell Willlkie High School. Many of Crim's paintings include trains and train depots; this one depicts Elwood. The piece now hangs in the Municipal Building. Mayor Todd Jones is pictured accepting the donation.

Lions Club makes donation in memory of Earl Watson

The Elwood Lions Club recently made a donation of woodworking books to the Elwood Public Library in memory of Earl Watson. The donation included books for all reading levels, ranging from children's to adult levels. Watson passed away Dec. 31, 2022 at the age of 90. He taught industrial arts in Elwood and retired from the John Hinds Career Center in 1993/ He was a longtime member of the Elwood Lions Club. Little Cupid and Little Sweetheart crowned

Colton River Landrum, shown above, was crowned the 2023 Little Cupid last week at the Elwood Elks Lodge. Landrum is the son of Cody and Falyn Landrum. Melissia Cornwell, pictured below, was crowned the 2023 Little Sweetheart. She is the daughter of Ben and Samantha Cornwell. The contest was sponsored by annually by Kappa Delta Phi Sorority.

Earlier this month, the Elwood C.A.R.E.S. organization hosted its annual Trivia Night fundraiser at Lucky Strike Lanes. Each year, the fundraiser benefits a different local cause. This year, Elwood C.A.R.E.S. raised $500 for the Elwood Junior/Senior High School Athletic Department. LOSINGS The Elwood Municipal Building and the Elwood Street Department will be closed Monday, February 20 in observance of Presidents' Day. Monday's trash will be collected on Tuesday along with Tuesday's normal route.
