PINETO — Elwood’s varsity football team kicked off the 2024 season and the Sammy Mireles era in explosive fashion here on Friday night.Senior Jayden Mullins rushed for two touchdowns, passed for another and returned an interception for yet another score to lead the Panthers to a 47-6 victory over Southern Wells.Mullins’ only pass completion of the night came on Elwood’s first possession and was an 80 yarder to freshman Nathan Bixby.

CHARLOTTESVILLE — Friday night’s varsity football game between Frankton and Eastern Hancock turned into a shootout that the state-ranked Royals won 63-49.Frankton junior quarterback Ethan Stansberry turned in a career-best performance as he completed 21 of 31 passes for 280 yards and five touchdowns.His favorite target was senior Brady Carmack who caught nine passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns.
