Mayor issues statement regarding wheel tax

Mayor Todd Jones issued the following statement last Wednesday regarding a public notice that was advertised in the Elwood Call-Leader regarding a public hearing that was slated for next Monday’s City Council meeting regarding the issuance of a potential wheel tax.

Boards facing additional charges stemming from April stabbing

Carl Roy Webb Boards, the man charged with the 2022 murder of Elwood police officer Noah Jacob Shahnavaz, is facing an additional charge of attempted murder for the April 25 stabbing of a prison guard at the Miami Correctional Facility.

Since then, the company, operated by David Turk and Tyler and Miles Hiatt, has been hard at work renovating the space, re-purposing the historic downtown building into 13 efficiency apartments, climate-controlled storage units, and are planning to open a breakfast cafe.

Crawford recipient of 2025 Noah Shahnavaz Legacy Scholarship

Jaleigh Crawford was awarded the 2025 Noah Jacob Shahnavaz Legacy Scholarship last Saturday at the Elwood Elks. Crawford, who attends St. Mary of the Woods College, is pursuing a degree in criminology and minoring in psychology. She plans to work in forensics following graduation. She was presented the scholarship by Matt Shahnavaz and members of the Shahnavaz family.
