Blue Devils defeat Elwood 5-1

ELWOOD — Tipton and Elwood went into the tail end of the season with three wins each and met each other here last Wednesday with each opening to get a feel-good verdict.But a pair of two-out, two-run singles by the Blue Devils’ Evan Coe and Nick Nasser produced all the offense needed for the visitors to notch a 5-1 victory.“Those were big hits by Coe and Nasser for us,” said Tipton coach Andy Hussong.

ELWOOD — Alexandria’s varsity girls tennis team pulled off a sectional five-peat last week.The Tigers trailed Frankton 2-1 in last Thursday’s championship match of the Elwood Girls Tennis Sectional.

FRANKTON — When Frankton defeated Alexandria on May 2, the team knew that only Madison-Grant could prevent them from an unbeaten Central Indiana Conference title.At that time, Frankton coach Jeremy Parker knew the Argylls always played the Eagles tough and said so.It turns out he was prophetic as Frankton had to hold off a seventh-inning rally for a 9-7 victory here last Thursday.

MARION — Two was the number of the day for Liam Baker and his Frankton High School boys golf teammates on Saturday.Baker shot a 4-over par 75 to earn second-place medalist honors and lead the Eagles to a second-place team finish in the Central Indiana Conference match hosted by Oak Hill and played at Arbor Trace G.C.

Frankton sends 3 individuals, 1 relay to track regionals

MARION — Elwood and Frankton competed in the Marion Girls and Boys Track and Field Sectionals last Tuesday and Thursday.Although Panther senior Savannah Garcia came close to advancing on, Frankton was the only one to advance runners, three of those came after the meets were over.Frankton’s Chelsea Newton will compete in the 1,600 at Tuesday’s Fort Wayne Carroll Regional, while the Eagles’ Dillon Pratt, Blake Niccum and the 4-by-400 relay team will compete in Thursday’s boys regional also at Fort Wayne Carroll.Frankton’s 4-by-400 team of Jack Harrison, Ashtin Sigler, Niccum and Pratt was the only automatic qualifier.
