FHS golfers playing well

The Frankton High School boys golf team is playing well so far this season.The Eagles defeated Anderson 161-201 on Monday with the Eagles JV firing a 184.Liam Baker led Frankton with a 38 and Christian Knauer followed with a season-best score of 38.

Eagles improve to 6-4

FRANKTON — Frankton’s varsity girls tennis team has swept three out of its last four opponents and now sits at 6-4 on the season.The Eagles blanked Anderson 5-0 on Monday and that followed a 5-0 win at Madison-Grant last Friday.

Eastern routs Elwood

ELWOOD — Eastern jumped out to a 4-0 lead over Elwood in the first inning and then blew open the game with a 10-run third inning as the visiting Comets went on to record a 17-2, 5-inning victory in last Friday’s varsity softball action.The Comets also had a two-run second and a one-run fourth.

Blackford overpowers Panthers

ELWOOD — Playing without a key ingredient to its team, Elwood opened Central Indiana Conference play with a 23-6 loss to Blackford here last Thursday.Senior Alivia Boston, one of the team’s best pitchers and hitters, started serving a 7-game suspension for an incident that happened Thursday at school.“We weren’t at full strength and that hurts us a little bit,” said Elwood coach Jessie Mireles.Sophomore Averi Savage was the starting pitcher for the home team.

FRANKTON — Freshman Avalee Stanley proved last Tuesday that she has all the tools to completely ruin an opponent’s day.What she did against Mount Vernon on Tuesday helped Frankton demolish the Marauders 13-3 and move her team to 5-2 on the season.Stanley might be short but that only applies to her height.

FRANKTON — Shaun Jarrett had a monster day at the plate to lead Frankton to a 16-5, five-inning victory over Tipton on Monday night.Jarrett finished doubled twice, singled twice and drove in five runs in four plate appearances as the Eagles won their second straight game after opening the season with four consecutive losses.

FHS tennis places 2nd in county

After rain postponed the Madison County girls tennis tournament for two straight days, play finally commenced on Friday.Frankton and Elwood had to travel to Madison-Grant to play the first-round match as Fairmount did not get Friday afternoon’s first wave of storms.
