Red Gold is bringing back it’s annual Chili Cook-Off for it’s 35th Anniversary of the event on October 21st, 2023. The event will coincide with the 12th Annual Red Gold Run to Crush Hunger for CRUSH HUNGER SATURDAY. This will be the first time since 2019 where both events are held at the same time in downtown Elwood, IN.
On Monday, Madison County law enforcement agencies responded to the report of an active shooter at Alexandria Monroe Junior Senior High School. Alexandria police said that multiple agencies responded to a phone call report of an active shooter at the school at approximately 11:45 a.m.
The Elwood Police Department hosted its 2023 Awards Banquet last Tuesday evening at the Elwood Elks Lodge. The banquet included an Italian buffet dinner followed by the presentation of awards. The ceremony was attended by members of the Elwood Police Department and their families, Mayor Todd Jones, the members of the Board of Works, and Sheriff John Beeman. William Maluvac of the Elwood Police Department and Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy Robert Lemon were awarded the Silver Star Award for their response to the tragic killing of Officer Noah Shahnavaz.

The Elwood Board of Works and Public Safety met Monday evening for a regular meeting at the Municipal Building. Following the roll call, the board approved minutes from the previous meeting held on April 3.

Sheila Renee Hawkins, 53, of Elwood, was arrested Tuesday, May 2 for domestic battery. Aron Phillip Smith, 39, of Elwood, was arrested Tuesday, May 2 for domestic battery – with prior unrelated convictions and intimidation.
