The role of a 4-H Queen

The Madison County 4-H queen contest was held on July 12 prior to the official opening of the 2025 fair. Since then, the crowned queen Emma Kelich has spent every day between July 12 and July 26 at the 4-H fairgrounds.

Former Summitville fire chief, currently serving an 18-year sentence for child sexual misconduct charges, sentenced to additional three years

Tuesday morning, former Summitville Volunteer Fire Department Chief James Randall “Randy” Sizelove appeared in Madison County Circuit Court I for a sentencing and restitution hearing stemming from charges of Theft (Level 6 felony), Official Misconduct (Level 6 felony), and Conflict of Interest (Level 6 felony). Sizelove appeared for the hearing via Zoom technology from the New Castle Department of Corrections, where he is currently serving an 18-year sentence on previous child sexual misconduct charges.

DMT Capital breathing new life into historical buildings

The former Call Leader offices at 317 South Anderson Street were purchased by DMT Capital, LLC in 2023. Since then, the company, operated by David Turk and Tyler and Miles Hiatt, has been hard at work renovating the space, re-purposing the historic downtown building into 13 efficiency apartments, climate-controlled storage units, and are planning to open a breakfast cafe.

Dear Eric: One of our neighbors has acquired backyard chickens, and a rooster. His chicken coop is not far from our bedroom window. Now that it’s getting warmer, we like to sleep with the windows open to cool off the house at night. The rooster wakes up at 5:20 a.m., so now we do as well.
