Elwood grows in numbers, experience

The good news for the Elwood Lady Panthers basketball team is that the numbers are up, but while it’s not necessarily bad news, coach Courtney Lickliter’s squad is still primarily comprised of freshmen and sophomores.“We are still young, but we have some new faces that are athletic and could really help us,” Lickliter said.The Panthers graduated two players off last year’s 3-20 team, Darica Dickey and Raeghan Wisehart.

Eagles shut out Panthers

FRANKTON — The Luzadder brothers combined for 228 rushing yards and four touchdowns to lead Frankton to a 42-0 victory over Elwood here last Friday night.The win was the second straight for the Eagles, who finished Central Indiana Conference play with a 2-5 record and will take a 2-7 record into Friday night’s Class 3A Sectional 27 contest at West Lafayette (6-3).Junior Nate Luzadder finished with 17 carries for 149 yards and two touchdowns, while freshman Cooper Luzadder added 11 carries for 79 yards and also scored a pair of touchdowns.

Lady Eagles run on to regional

MARION — The Frankton Lady Eagles earned a trip to this Saturday’s New Haven Cross Country Regional, and so did Frankton’s Owen Young.Elwood’s Alora Coble just missed getting the opportunity to move on and the Lady Panthers placed eighth as a team.The top five teams and top 15 individuals on non-advancing teams at last Saturday’s Marion Regional, run at Indiana Wesleyan University, earned the right to advance to the regional.Yorktown ran away with the girls sectional team title, finishing with 40 points.

Frankton beats Blackford for 1st win

FRANKTON — A strong rushing performance by junior running back Nate Luzadder and Frankton’s best defensive performance of the season helped the Eagles to their first win of 2024.Luzadder rushed for 279 yards and four touchdowns and the Eagles gave up just one touchdown in a 32-7 Central Indiana Conference victory over Blackford here last Friday night.The Eagles (1-7, 1-5 CIC) close out the regular season when they host rival Elwood (1-7, 0-6) on Friday night.Frankton coach Mark Luzadder shook things up a big on Friday as he moved freshman Cooper Luzadder to quarterback.
