Eagles’ comeback falls 2 seconds short

FRANKTON — Frankton dug a 13-point hole, mostly from not blocking out on the boards in the first half and eventually fell on a shot by Yorktown’s Lily Sylvester with 2.3 seconds remaining in last Tuesday night’s varsity girls basketball game at the Eagles Nest.Thanks to Sylvester’s heroics, the Tigers escaped with a 47-46 triumph.With 11 seconds remaining and the Eagles down 45-44, Amaya Collins made a perfect feed to a cutting Sophia Hoagland for a layup to put the home team on top 46-45.“That was a big play for us,” said Frankton coach Jeff Bates.

Jay County sweeps Elwood 7th, 8th boys

PORTLAND — Both Elwood seventh- and eighth-grade teams had tough a night on the road Monday, losing a pair of games to Jay County,Elwood lost the eighth-grade game 45-21, while the Panther seventh graders fell 57-10.8TH GRADEThe Panthers trailed 6-4 at the end of the first quarter, but had the lead at the end of the first half 10-9.
