FRANKTON — Frankton dug a 13-point hole, mostly from not blocking out on the boards in the first half and eventually fell on a shot by Yorktown’s Lily Sylvester with 2.3 seconds remaining in last Tuesday night’s varsity girls basketball game at the Eagles Nest.Thanks to Sylvester’s heroics, the Tigers escaped with a 47-46 triumph.With 11 seconds remaining and the Eagles down 45-44, Amaya Collins made a perfect feed to a cutting Sophia Hoagland for a layup to put the home team on top 46-45.“That was a big play for us,” said Frankton coach Jeff Bates.

HARTFORD CITY — The weather may not have been ideal to travel in, but Frankton’s high school basketball teams had a successful and enjoyable trip here on Friday night.

ELWOOD — Alexandria won Friday night’s Central Indiana Conference girls game in a pure definition of a blowout and then, Elwood won the boys contest, 38-36, in a game that came right down to the final trip down the court.

Seniors Emma Sperry and Amaya Collins and the Frankton Lady Eagles turned in big performances last week.Sperry became the seventh Lady Eagle to score 1,000 career points with her 27-point effort in Saturday’s 82-34 Central Indiana Conference rout over Madison-Grant at the Eagles Nest.

ELWOOD — Tri-Central’s high school wrestling team ended 2023 by winning the two-day Eastern Holiday Classic with a 9-0 record.
