KOKOMO — Elwood picked the right time to play its best baseball game of the season. The Panthers gave Madison-Grant all the Argylls could handle and then some in the second game of Wednesday night’s Class 2A Eastern Sectional.
MARION — Sydney Duncan won the shot put at last Tuesday’s Marion Girls Track and Field Sectional. The Frankton senior also earned a trip to Tuesday’s Carroll (Fort Wayne) Girls Track and Field Regional in two events by placing third in the discus.
ANDERSON — Chloe Wenger’s passing shot not only secured the game, set and match for her and her No. 2 doubles partner Campbell Quire, it also lifted Frankton to a 3-2 victory over Lapel in Wednesday’s opening match of the Anderson Girls Tennis Sectional. The Lady Eagles advance to Thursday’s semifinals and will square off against a talented Alexandria team that swept Frankton earlier this season. But Wednesday’s win should give the Eagles some confidence as they had lost to Lapel 3-2 in their first meeting earlier this season. The Bulldogs then swept their arch-rivals 5-0 in the second meeting.
FAIRMOUNT — The sun set on Elwood’s high school softball season and on the coaching career of JR Reese here Monday night. The Panthers entered Monday’s Class 2A Madison- Grant Sectional riding an eight-game winning streak and had Friday’s game over Caston gone longer than two innings, the streak could have been nine.
ANDERSON — The Elwood varsity girls tennis team could not have asked for a better sectional draw, and the Panthers made the most of it. Elwood drew the host Anderson Indians and both teams received a bye into last Thursday’s semifinals.
FRANKTON — Threerun home runs by Makena Alexander and Amaya Collins powered the Frankton Eagles to a 6-1 senior night victory over Tipton here last Monday. Alexander was the first to knock the ball out of the park.
TIPTON — The Tipton High School baseball team honored one of the best players to ever don a Blue Devil uniform before last Tuesday’s senior night matchup against Elwood. Now Arizona resident Rob Purvis and his company MVP Mortgage donated a brand new baseball scoreboard for the THS field.
FAIRMOUNT — Frankton and Madison-Grant, two teams playing for the undisputed Central Indiana Conference title here last Thursday, threw haymakers at each other in a combined 13-run fifth inning before the Argylls won the game in the sixth, 13-10.
