Cooper Altherr and Evan Long won two events each to propel the Tipton High School boys varsity track and field team to a second-place finish in its own invitational on Friday night. Sydney Duncan swept the throwing events to lead Frankton’s Lady Eagles to the runner- up finish at the same Tipton Invitational.
Although the softball and baseball sectionals do not start until the last full week of May, the Indiana High School Athletic Association conducted the draw on Sunday and released the match-ups back-to-back pairings shows.
ELWOOD --- Neither Tri-Central nor Elwood handled the ball cleanly in the field of play, combining for nine errors in Monday’s varsity softball game here. The difference was the Panthers came up with some big and timely hits to spur them on to a 7-1 victory over the Trojans.
FRANKTON — Frankton evened its varsity girls tennis record to 5-5 and remained unbeaten in the Central Indiana Conference at 2-0 with a 5-0 sweep of Elwood here last Wednesday. Al five matches were decided in straight sets, though two of them were not quite as easy as that sounds.
FRANKTON --- In a season where the Frankton baseball team has been slow to develop, a new problem cropped up on Tuesday and it led to a 9-4 loss to Mississinewa. The Eagles stranded 15 runners over the seven inning, taking away opportunities to keep pace with the Indians, who rolled out to a 9-1 lead.

ELWOOD --- Their backs against the wall, the Elwood Panthers refused to be denied and rallied for a 3-2, nine-inning victory over Hamilton Heights on Friday evening. The win came one night after the Panthers did not do much right in a 19-1, five-inning Central Indiana Conference loss to Madison-Grant.
HARTFORD CITY --- Sophomore Paige Parker pitched a two-hitter as Frankton’s varsity softball team shut out Blackford 4-0 in Thursday’s Central Indiana Conference opener here. Parker gave up a one-out single in the third inning and a leadoff single in the fourth.
FAIRMOUNT --- Sydney Duncan’s record-breaking performance in the shot put got the Madison County girls track and field meet off to a strong start for Frankton. A second-place finish by the Eagles’ 4-by-400 relay team secured the county championship for Frankton.
