FRANKTON –– Thrust into a position that might normally saved for seniors, sophomore pitcher Paige Parker got out of a sixthinning jam that could have cost Frankton the lead it had enjoyed since the first inning.

RGarmon@cherryroad.com HAGERSTOWN –– The Frankton varsity baseball was shut out 5-0 by Hagerstown in its season opener on Monday evening. The Eagles did not have time to dwell on Monday’s loss as they were back on the diamond Tuesday, losing 11-1 in five innings at Guerin Catholic.
RGarmon@cherryroad.com Elwood and Frankton opened their high school boys and girls track seasons this past week. Last Thursday, Elwood was swept by Lapel with the Bulldogs winning the boys meet 85-33 and the girls meet 69-42.
RGarmon@cherryroad.com WESTFIELD –– The rain may have had an effect on Wednesday’s varsity softball contest between Frankton and Hamilton Heights but thanks to the turf fields available at Grand Park, the game as able to be played. The visiting Eagles plated two runs in the top of the first inning and never trailed on their way to a 42 victory over the host Huskies.
Kokomo’s Flory Bidunga (40) goes up for two of his 19 points in Saturday night’s Class 4A state championship game against No. 1-ranked Ben Davis. Bidunga finished 9 of 12 from the field but was just 1 of 7 at the free-throw line. He also pulled down 11 rebounds and blocked five shots. Several college coaches, including Indiana’s Mike Woodson and Michigan State’s Tom Izzo, were on hand to watch Bidunga, a 6-foot-10 junior. The Giants, however, won the game 53-41 to finish the season a perfect 33-0.
