Dean W. Morehead, 51, entered peace and rest surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, April 29, 2023, following a 7month journey through cancer.

He was born on August 15, 1971, in Anderson to Kenneth and Kathy (Ellis) Morehead. Dean was a graduate of Alexandria- Monroe High School-Class of 1990. During his high school years, he received Varsity Awards in Football- 1986 and 1987, Basketball-1987-1990 where he proudly played for Garth Cone and Baseball-19871990. He was a member of the 1987-1988 Basketball C.I.C. Championship team, the 1989 Basketball Sectional Championship team, during the 1989-1990 basketball season he was awarded the MVP award and was Captain of the team. During the 1989-1990 baseball season he was Co-MVP, 1st Team All County, 1st Team All Sectional and was named to the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association South All-Star team. He was a member of the Alexandria “A” Mens Club. Dean earned a baseball scholarship to Butler University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education, and he received his Masters degree from Ball State University. He played semi-professional baseball for the Anderson Lawmen. Upon college graduation Dean coached Varsity baseball at Madison-Grant High School. He then moved to Blue River Valley High School at Mount Summit where he was the K-12 Phys. Ed. Teacher, he taught driver’s ed and he coached the Girl’s Varsity Basketball team, the JV Boys’ Basketball team, the Varsity Baseball team and he managed the weight room. He owned and operated the D1 Driving School in New Castle for several years. He then became Athletic Director and Assistant Principal at South Decatur High School in Greensburg. He returned to his Alma Mater and became Assistant Principal at Alexandria-Monroe Jr. and Sr. High School and was the Boys Varsity Basketball Coach and Varsity Assistant Baseball Coach. For a brief period, Dean worked for Envision Laboratories in Indianapolis. He then accepted a Social Studies teaching position at Switzerland County High School at Vevay, Indiana. Dean was warmly welcomed there and quickly became a part of the school family and the community. He loved the students and faculty he worked with there. He was employed at Switzerland County until his diagnosis of cancer brought his teaching and administrative career to an end. Dean was also an official with the IHSAA and officiated numerous sporting events. He was also a graduate of the Adult Leadership Academy of Madison County. Dean will be remembered for a soft spot that he held in his heart for challenged young people and many stories exist about how he reached out to them.

Survivors: Parents-Kenny and Kathy Morehead- Alexandria, Brother-Jim (Heather) Morehead- Alexandria, Nephews-Blake Morehead and Brennan Morehead, and other extended family members.

Dean was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Harold and Jane Morehead and his maternal grandparents-Harry and Margaret Ellis.

Services honoring Dean’s life and legacy will take place at 3 pm on Saturday, May 13, 2023, in the Alexandria First Baptist Church, 2107 South Park Avenue (State Road 9 South) with Rev. Mike Wilcox, Greg Kyle and Pastor Michael Deutsch officiating. Cremation will follow the services. Dean’s family will receive friends at the Alexandria First Baptist Church after 10 am until the hour of service on Saturday, May 13th.The services will be livestreamed on the church’s Facebook page Alexandria First Baptist Church beginning at 3 pm the day of the service.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alexandria-Monroe High School Athletic Department, 1 Burden Court, Alexandria, IN 46001 or to the Switzerland County High School, 1020 W. Main Street, Vevay, IN 47043.
