RICHARD BURGER

Richard A. “Dickie” Burger, Jr., age 81 of Elwood, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family after extensive health issues. He was born May 2, 1942 in Winamac, the son of Richard and Vera (Watkins) Burger, Sr. Richard worked at Goodman Wire Company in Alexandria for over 30 years in various positions within the company and retired in 2002. He married Patricia Ann Martin on July 4, 1981, and they shared over 41 years of marriage together raising their blended families.

Richard enjoyed working on old cars and motorcycles in addition to carpentry and renovations to his home. He was well-known for always wearing a cowboy hat when he was out and about. Richard also loved spending time with his family, watching old westerns, and listening to country music. He will be remembered as a humble man who was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Richard’s family legacy includes his wife, Patricia of Elwood; 8 children, Amanda Burger of Elwood, Joyce (James) Cline of Elwood, Janice (Fred) McIntosh of Elwood, Jennifer (Scott) Riley of Anderson, Jeff (Shelly) Burger of Frankton, Tammy Stanley of Middletown, Robert Burger of Tennessee, and Angie (Jim) Capps of Elwood; sister, Sharon Burger (Keith Thomas) of Winimac; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a niece, April Star. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Melvin Burger; and stepson, Mark Groover.

A funeral service honoring Richard’s life will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023 at 1:30 pm at Copher- Fesler-May Funeral Home in Elwood with Pastor Jim Stout of Joy Christian Church officiating. A burial will follow in the Elwood City Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm prior to the funeral on Monday at Copher-Fesler-May Funeral Home.
