Shahnavaz was one of several officers honored from around the country for their ultimate sacrifice.
The 2023 Elwood Junior Senior High School Variety Show was held Saturday and Sunday at John Ward Gymnasium, under the direction of Paula Simmons. This year’s show was the 65th annual Variety Show, and featured performances from the Panther Band, the Crimson Suite Show Choir, the Concert Choir, several soloists, and even alumni! The show also included professional lighting and sound from Majestic Productions.

The annual Elwood Junior Senior High School Day of Caring was held Friday, May 12. Each year, students in grades 7 through 12 participate in the Day of Caring, which involves numerous community service projects throughout the City of Elwood.
Recently, Dr. Steven Gatewood, a 2022 Elwood Samaritan Heart recipient, was presented a custom heart in recognition of his distinction as a Samaritan Heart winner by the staff at Essential Health & Living. The 2022 Elwood Samaritan Heart sponsors include the City of Elwood, the Elwood Call-Leader, Essential Health & Living, Dunnichay Funeral Home and the Madison County Federal Credit Union.
The Elwood Jr/Sr High School Drama Club is rehearsing for their upcoming performance of Peter Pan. The show will be presented on Saturday, May 6 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 7 at 2 p.m. at Merritt Auditorium. Tickets are $5 and will be available at the door; cash only.
